Long Bows

We have been offering a red oak longbow for some time. Last year we talked with our bowyer, who has added a number of styles. These bows are made of red oak and hickory rather than the much more expensive yew traditionally used. Most are backed with linen. The difference in materials makes no substantial difference in performance and certainly makes the bows more affordable. Also, since yew is not used, there is no need for the horn tips requred on yew bows, simplifying manufacture. We are sure you will be very satisfied with the quality and performance of your bow. All bows come equipped with a bow string, stringer and instructions. We are not supplying arrows at this time. There are many sources of arrows and arrow components on the Internet. The bowyer requests that you allow him three to five weeks to finish and ship your bow. However, our experience has been that most bows ship in two to three weeks. We will have to charge your credit card or cash your check prior to shipment of your bow because we must pay for it at the time we place the order with the bowyer. However, there is a 30 day full money back guaranty if you are dissatisfied with your bow We think you will love it as much as we love ours.

Bold Blades does not make or guaranty these bows. Any claims against the warranty will have to be made with the bowyer, whose information will come with your new bow. They have a one year warranty against defects.

English War Bow

The War Bow does not have a wrap for the grip. There is an indention in the stave for hand placement. This bow comes with a maximum draw weight of 50# and a maximum draw length of 32”. It is not linen-backed like most of these bows and is slightly wider than the originals. Permanently finished, it requires no routine maintenance. Please specify the draw weight and length required for you.

Bamboo Backed Long Bow

This hickory bow with bamboo backing can be had for any draw weight between 20# and 60# with up to 32” draw length.  This is a powerful bow. Comes with a wrapped grip, bow string and stringer. This will take a strong arm to pull with consistency.

Welsh Short Bow (Left)

This bow comes with a 40# to 50# draw weight at a 20” pull.  This bow is made for snap shooting at short range and should never be pulled more than 20”. This bow is made from linen backed red oak and like nearly all our bows, is permanently finished.

The red oak, linen backed bow can be had with  a pull of 45# at 32” draw. Wrapped grip.

English Long Bow

    This bow, which is our personal favorite (we own one), can be had with a maximum draw weight of 45# and draw length of 32”. Do keep in mind that all but the fixed weight bows may be ordered with between 20#  and 45# to 60# pull and 28” - 30” draw length. This bow is linen backed and permanently finished.

American Target Bow

Made in the style of the popular American target bow this red oak, linen backed bow come with a standard pull of 30# to 35# at a 28” draw length. Unlike our other bows, this one has a cut in arrow shelf above the wrapped grip.  Fully finished for no maintenance.

Legolas’ Bow

If you are a fan of Lord of the Rings, and who isn’t, then you will want to order the bow of Legolas, This bow is red oak, backed with lined and painted black with a gold wrapped grip. It pulls about about 30# at 28”. Just the thing to clear the orcs out of your neighborhood.

Child’s Bow

This bow pulls 10# to 15# at 18”. It is intended for kids 4 feet 8 inches or smaller. Adult supervision is mandatory when using this bow. Red oak with a linen backing and wrapped grip.
