Basket-Hilted Broadswords

Officers' Broadsword

This is the most attractive and authentic factory-made broadsword we have seen. You have to go to a custom smith to get anything nicer. This sword has the correct small basket of brushed steel, with a cloth and leather liner. The basket style dates from the mid-18th Century Stirling school of hilt making. This fine sword sports a 33 1/2 inch doube-edged blade that is 1 7/8 inch wide at the joining of blade and guard, and engraved with the magical name of "Andrea Ferara", the mark of quality to Highlanders. The grip is wire wrapped wray skin. Equipped with a leather covered wooden sheath, here is THE SWORD for those who want an authentic look.

Antiqued Version                                        Details of "Grotesque Masque" decoration                "Andria Farara"

Here are two photos from an online auction of what appears to be the original sword our reproduction was taken from. This points out the excellent work of Hanwei in reproducing this sword.

The Officers' Backsword is equipped with a single edge blade 34 inches long, and inscribed with the trademark "Andria Farara", one of the many spelling variations of "Andrea Ferara". The authentically sized basket of brushed steel, displays a "grotesque masque" on opposing front panels. The buff leather liner with red cloth exterior and pommel fringe set this fine sword apart. It comes equipped with a leather covered sheath and brushed steel throat and drag tip. The original of this sword is said to date from the late 17th century. This sword is now available in an "antiqued" version with aged basket and liner and a buff leather sheath. Very good effect at the same low price.

COLD STEEL BROADSWORD

Cold Steel is recognized as a maker of excellent, very durable blades and this new broadsword in our line is no exception. The basket is made on the 1851 pattern. Equipped with a 1050 high carbon steel blade of 31 1/2 inches, this sword is a truly formidable weapon, with a massive sharpened edge of over 16 inches. We have witnessed a very impressive cutting demonstration with this sword, involving a side of beef. If we were to have to take a sword into battle, this would be the one! Comes equipped with a leather over wood sheath with blued steel fittings. Bluing was used by the old swordsmiths, so this is authentic. A great sword for just...

A handsome sword at a reasonable price.  The fullered carbon steel blade is 32 ½ “ long.  The ornate brass basket is lined with red wool.  Comes with a polished steel scabbard with two rings for hanging from a waist belt or baldric. These swords, in the past, have always come to us with a broad blade, i.e. double edged. The last two shipments we received were backswords, i.e. single edged. The sheath on these latest swords has a different style drag tip from what is shown here. The basket, liner, etc. are the same. They are still good looking swords at an excellent price, but we wanted to advise you of this change, which may or may not be temporary.

Mid-Priced

The basket is bright steel with a red cloth lining.  The heavy-duty blade is fullered for most of its length.  The sheath is bright steel, without hanging rings, so you will want a baldric with plain frog if you plan to carry this sword.
