WELCOME TO BOLD BLADES

If you have visited our site before then you will notice some changes. Our web server died in June, 2011, taking the site with it. We have now built a new site, using a different template and are pleased with the results. There is an important announcement on our News page. Please take a look.

Our Highland Games Calendar is updated.  We will be vending at the WNC Highlands Celtic Festival, June 15 - 16 at the Pisgah Brewing Company in Black Mountain, NC. This will be our first time there. It is a music festival and looks like it will be a lot of fun. We are still looking for new venues in the Southeast.  Please contact us if you are planning a new Highland Games or need a weapons vendor at your existing games.

Friends. We have received word from CAS Hanwei that the Hanwei factory in China has ceased production, quite possibly for several months. When production resumes we understand that prices will increase, by how much is uncertain. At this time we have very little Hanwei merchandise on hand but will attempt to order what we can get to supply our customers. CAS advises us that some items may be out of stock until mid-year and that they are cancelling all backorders. We are making changes to our site to reflect the lack of availability. We do have sources for similar products and will be adding some of these to the catalog and the web site. We apologize for this situation but it is out of our hands. “Update”. We learned today (2/2/12) that the disruption of production stems from the factory fire of last year. The company is rebuilding and severe winter weather has halted construction. Their plan is to get back into production by April but it will take some time to get up to speed. We are glad to know that there is a timetable and that the shortages will be temporary.

We have just added some handmade knives to our Miscellaneous Page, made by the former owner of Bold Blades There are dirks, daggers and hand-knapped flint knives all with Red Deer handles. You will also find a couple of unique factory-made knives in that section. Limited quantities so do not delay.

Bold Blades does not have a retail store. We are a home-based business.  Our toll free order number is 800-830-0609.  Our hours are 2 - 10 PM ET, Monday through Friday and most Saturdays 10 - 6. If you miss us please leave a message with your name and number and the test time to call. We will return your call as soon as possible!  Our web site does not have a shopping cart although we are considering that option. You may also order vial e-mail or fax, but in the case of e-mail please do not send your credit card information as we cannot guarantee a secure connection. Call us with your payment information. Our fax number is 704-481-0810, which is also a voice line for inquiries. We also attend a number of Highland Games and Festivals annually. A schedule can be found under the “About Us” page. NOTICE

The swords and other edged weapons supplied by Bold Blades are well-made of modern stainless and high-carbon steels. Some could be used in combat. However, like the originals they duplicate, they will break if misused. For that reason we recommend that all our blades be used only for display and as collectibles. We will not refund or replace any sword or other edged weapon that has been disassembled, misused or abused, or which clearly exhibits signs of having been used in mock (or real) combat. We will not accept responsibility for any personal injury or property damage caused by the misuse of any or our wares. Further, we will refund or replace only those edged weapons that are returned to us in original condition within 30 days of the purchase date (shipping date in the case of back orders). Blades returned after 30 days will not be accepted, regardless of the reason for return. By placing an order with Bold Blades you certify that you are at least 18 years of age and that there are no restrictions on you owning the items ordered, and that they are not prohibited by any national, state or local laws at your place of residence.

SHIPPING POLICY

At Bold Blades we try to keep our most popular items in stock at all times, but at any given time we may be out of an item. Most of our blades come from US-based wholesalers but our bonnets, belts, sporrans, blazons and a few of our blades are imported directly by us. If we are out of stock we will, of course, tell you when you call or send a card or letter or call you if you mail an order. In the case of credit cards we will not charge your card until the times are ready for shipment.  If you pay by check or money order we will get your approval to hold these funds until shipment. If at any time you do not feel you can wait for us to re-supply, we will cheerfully refund your money, if paid by check. We try to ship all in stock items within 24 hours of receiving your order, subject to availability of UPS or the Postal Service. You will pay only one shipping charge in the case of multiple orders; the highest for any single item in the order. Fixed shipping charges apply to shipments within the continental United States. Foreign shipments or rush shipments will incur additional charges. Please note the shipping surcharges on the larger swords, which are posted with each time. We cannot provide special selection on any item, nor can you pick up merchandise at our location. Please provide your e-mail address with your order. We do not send junk e-mail.

Seen above is a famous woodcut of Highlanders serving in the army of Swedish king Gustavus Adolphus in the 17th c. Many Highlanders went to Europe to fight as mercenaries. Note that two of these gentlemen are armed with bows and one with what appears to be a matchlock musket. Many of our Clan, the Clan Gunn, fought in Europe and stayed in countries like Germany, where they kept their names but lost their Highland culture.
